5 Designing Website Tips to Keep Users Satisfied

December 22, 2020

Are you afraid that your current website is scaring people off? Perhaps the layout or certain features of the site are overwhelming users too much. If so, then you’ll need to read up on several designing website tips that you can implement.

Doing so will give you a starting point for how to refresh your site. As a business, you want your website to provide the easier process possible for the consumer lifecycle. In other words, expedite the process from exposure to purchasing a product.

See below for several website designing tips that you can use to attract your site users and keep them on your site for longer.

1. Invest in Session Replays

Imagine getting the chance to see how a site user navigates through your site. Rather than looking at sheets of numbers and having to connect the dots, you could literally see their mouse go up and down your page.

This can help shine a light on what parts of your site are attracting customers and what parts of your site are not. It can also help you improve your understanding of your site users.

If you invest in session replays, you’ll be able to do exactly that. It will show you where their mouse goes around your page and which aspects they found most intriguing. This can help you test out different aspects of your website.

For example, you could put a picture of your top-selling products along with a brief description on your home page. If the content and layout are enticing, you’ll witness their mouse head straight for the prominently-displayed products. If not, they’ll go elsewhere or bounce off the page.

Start by visiting decibel.com to learn all about session replays, why they are important, and how they can enhance the data your company gets on its site.

2. K.I.S.S.

These days, too many companies are trying to blow their site users away with amazing graphics, endless amounts of pages, and all the information possible. While all of those are important components, they need to be used in moderation.

For example, you might want to fill your clients with as much info on your product as possible. So you decide to put an elaborate piece of content on your product page highlighting all the major benefits and features.

However, the body size of your content might do more harm than good. If your product page has paragraph after paragraph of info, no one will ever read it.

That’s why it’s always helpful to remember the acronym “K.I.S.S.”, short for “keep it simple, silly!”. This can be used for every feature on your site: your content, your web design, your page numbers, your articles, your videos, all of it!

Remember, there’s always a balance to be struck. Even when it doesn’t seem possible, there’s always a way to simplify the information and still get your point across.

Using the example above, instead of writing a novel on your product page, create a 2 to 3-minute video you can post on the product page. It will look less intimidating to the site user and can help them see the value of your product all at once.

3. Prioritize Mobile-Friendliness

You may be surprised to find out that more people visit the internet via their smartphones more than any other device (including desktops). Needless to say, your website needs to be able to cater to the vast majority of phone users out there in the world.

If you use a drag-and-drop website builder like WordPress, then your site should have a mobile-friendly version automatically. However, you should still visit it using your own phone to see if the content fits well, as well as any tweaks that need to be made.

Simply put: if your site isn’t mobile-friendly, then it will repel all phone users. They’ll click the back button faster than you can say “website”.

4. Use High-Quality Images

Imagine being in your site user’s shoes. You stumble upon a site for a brand that you’ve never heard of before.

Your first exposure to them is a website with photos that are blurry and less than spectacular. What impression will that leave with you about their brand? Odds are, you won’t be revisiting that site anytime soon, if ever.

Make sure to double-check all the photos that you use. Do they fit your site correctly? Is the coloring desirable and attractive? Also, consider the way all of the photos mesh together on your site.

5. Push Customer Testimonials

Customer testimonials and positive client reviews are a gold mine for your website. They shine your brand in bright light and help first-time site visitors understand what differentiates you from your competitors.

Too many people separate customer reviews on a separate page. You should be finding ways to get them on your home page. That way, your site users can see how satisfied previous clients have been with your products and services.

If you don’t have many testimonials, no need to worry. Build an incentive program for previous clients that leave you a positive review or send you a testimonial you can post on your site.
