Cavaliers-Heat Delayed Due To Leak From Scoreboard

Posted on 20 March 2013 by Steph

Wednesday night’s Cleveland Cavaliers-Miami Heat matchup with a tip-off time of 7:00 PM (ET) in Cleveland was delayed due to a reported leak from the Quicken Loans Arena scoreboard.

According to a tweet from Cavs owner Dan Gilbert, “Scoreboard is leaking fluid on to floor. We need to lower scoreboard to fix. Never seen this one before. Going to be several minutes to fix.”

While lowering the scoreboard, a repeated “beep, beep, beep” alarm rang through the arena and it was estimated to take 15 minutes to fix while players waited in their respected locker rooms. Cavs’ mascot, Moondog, tried to provide some comic relief, and walked around the arena with an umbrella.

UPDATE: According to a tweet from Sam Amico of Fox Sports Ohio, the scoreboard issue was determined to be “‘condensation from CO2 tank.’ Cavs have had scoreboard since 2007, say they have never experienced this.”

The game finally tipped off at 7:45 PM.

Greg Oden sat in Cavs owner, Dan Gilbert’s, courtside seats at Friday night’s Cavaliers-Grizzlies game and was cheered on by fans both times he was shown on the video board. Oden said he’s still interested in signing with Cleveland but will likely wait until the summer to sign with any team.

According to Jason Lloyd, Akron Beacon Journal:

Oden attended the Cavs’ game Friday as a guest of Memphis Grizzlies point guard Mike Conley Jr., his best friend since childhood – yet wound up in Cavs owner Dan Gilbert’s baseline seats adjacent the Cavs’ bench.

Oden was showed on the video board twice during the game as fans cheered and said he is still interested in playing for the Cavs despite not signing a contract yet.

“I live in Ohio. It’s home now,” Oden said. “They have a great organization and I really do think they’re up and coming…”

“Obviously the longer it goes, the more it looks like that” he won’t sign until summer, Oden’s agent, Mike Conley Sr. said Friday.
