The NBA Is Donating All Proceeds From The Sale Of Jason Collins’ Nets Jersey To The Matthew Shepard Foundation

Signed to a 10-day contract by the Nets on Sunday, Jason Collins became the first openly gay active NBA player. Two days later, his jersey became the NBA’s highest seller on On Friday night, the NBA announced that it will donate all proceeds of his jersey sales to the Matthew Shepard Foundation and the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network. Collins wears No. 98 as a tribute to the Matthew Shepard, a young gay college student who was tortured and killed in a horrendous hate crime in 1998.
