Raptors Will Reportedly Offer Rudy Gay Contract Extension This Summer

While Rudy Gay was upset the Grizzlies new ownership didn’t give him a chance to prove he was worth his 5-year, $82 million maximum contract, the Raptors are reportedly going to provide the seventh-year veteran with that opportunity, and offer him a contract extension this summer. Gay still has 2 years and over $37 million on his current contract (the second year at $19.3 million is a player option).

According to Adrian Wojnarowski, Yahoo! Sports:

The struggling Raptors appear to believe in Gay. General manager Bryan Colangelo already views him as the face of the franchise, and a source said he will likely offer a contract extension in the offseason. Toronto is in need of star power since the departure of Chris Bosh and the demise of Andrea Bargnani, the former No. 1 draft pick. Attempts will be made to move Bargnani this summer for a proven scoring post player, sources said.
