NBA, Spurs Fine Stephen Jackson For “Unacceptable” Public Comments

Spurs veteran Stephen Jackson has been fined $25,000 for “issuing a hostile statement” directed at Oklahoma City forward Serge Ibaka, the NBA announced on Sunday.

Jackson posted an apology earlier in the day via his Twitter account:

I apologize to Serge Ibaka, the NBA, and to all my fans for the comments I made. It was unprofessional and childish. I’m not a thug just a man who speaks his mind. It was not appropriate. I do apologize. Only a man can admit when he’s wrong.

Spurs general manager R.C. Buford said in a statement that Jackson’s comments “are absolutely unacceptable, cannot be tolerated and do not reflect the standards held by the San Antonio Spurs.”

The fine was a joint action by the NBA and the Spurs, according to the statement.
